After some research, I decided to go with the Response 4-16x42 for a .223 AR build.  First time I took this to the range was with some friends, and I was able to compare it to several other scopes (some average quality and some “higher end” pieces).  We all were very impressed by this glass- the clarity, light transmission, and the overall quality build of the scope.
Other things I noticed when comparing the scopes were the ease of the twist turrets, accuracy of the side parallax, and the reticles not obscuring any targets at further distances.
Definitely made a few of my friends second guess their purchases…..overall a great scope for your money.

After some research I decided to purchase this Response scope for a .223 rifle build.  Based on its first trip to the range, I am VERY impressed with the optics quality and solid construction of the scope.  Its much more than I expected from an entry level scope in the Tract lineup.  Tract clearly fits very well within my lineup of Austrian and German glass and will have a spot on my next rifle.  Well done guys!

Is Schott glass used in the Response? Thanks.

Answer

SCHOTT HT glass is used in the TORIC, TEKOA and TURION scope models. While the RESPONSE line does not use SCHOTT glass, the fully multicoated optical system provide excellent light transmission and detail resolution that would be superior to scopes in its price range. Read More

The zero distance is somewhat of a personal choice. Your best bet would be to enter your actual round of ammunition in the Impact Ballistic program on the website and see whether a 100 or 200 yard zero would provide the best solution for approximate 100 yard increments. For example, a quick look at the program shows that a 100 grain .243 round with a B.C. off .355 at a velocity of approximately 2950 provides bullet drop compensation with a 200 yard zero at 314, 410, 505 and 610 with the RESPONSE 4-16X42 223/5.56

How do you think your response scope would pair with a savage bolt action predator in 243 win, and if so which one or if not what other model do you think would be a good match. Don't want to spend as much as your highest end scope. Thanks Scott

While the RESPONSE scope is designed for the AR platform, it can be used on any centerfire rifle, in fact, I use the RESPONSE on a bolt action GA Precision rifle. The great thing is that you can match your .243 round to the reticle by using the IMPACT Ballistic program on the website. Since the trajectory of the .243 is closer to the .308 then the .223, we would recommend the RESPONSE 4-16X42 .308/7.62 model.

Sorry, I hit send. Do the Response come with the Zero Stop or is the kit required? Thanks, Larry Reeves

The RESPONSE scopes do not feature a zero stop and the zero stop kit will only work with the TORIC, TEKOA and TURION scopes. They do feature the spring loaded reset to zero. Read More

I live in ND and love winter hunting predators. I see that the operating temperature is down to 1.4 degrees F. I often hunt in temps below that, sometimes near -20F if no wind. So I take it from your stats that this scope won't work properly below 1.4F? Bummer.

Answer

The scope will still perform under the conditions you mentioned, but certain adjustments such as the quick focus eyepiece and parallax adjustment may become stiffer under these conditions. The operating temperature references the point at which the adjustments will become stiffer since the lubrication on… Read More

2 questions...1. Looking for something for an 18" 6.5 Grendel, shooting mostly 100gr WPA (plinking) and 123gr Hornady SSA's (hunting) - which model will work best .223 or .308? 2. glass - you mention the glass on the 3 "T" models is Schott. What glass is on the Response? Thanks!

Answer

The since the muzzle velocity of the rounds you mentioned would be closer to the trajectory of the .308 round, we would suggest the RESPONSE 4-16X42 .308/7.62 model. The RESPONSE uses a Fully Multicoated Optical system with proprietary glass. Read More

I have the response 223/5.56 scope, should I zero it at 200 yards to use the yardage reticles? Also what magnification setting is the point of zero for the scope?

Answer

The RESPONSE 223/5.56 reticle is set up for a 100 yard sight in using a 55 grain polymer tipped bullet at a approximate velocity of 3240fps. The magnification should be set at the highest power for the reticle to line up for approximate 100 yard… Read More

The RESPONSE 223/5.56 reticle is set up for a 100 yard sight in using a 55 grain polymer tipped bullet at a approximate velocity of 3240fps. The magnification should be set at the highest power for the reticle to line up for approximate 100 yard increments beyond the sight in distance.
One thing to note is that the Impact program allows you to match up virtually any load to the reticle as well as change the zero distance to calculate the respective distances of the dots based on the selected magnification.
